Tangerine Cream Bars
Project: Tangerine Cream Bars
Role: Packaging Designer
Tangerine Cream Bars are a straight-up nostalgia bomb—sweet vanilla ice cream wrapped in bold tangerine-orange sorbet, just like chasing the ice cream truck on a summer afternoon. We couldn’t not give it a retro remix.
Photoshootin’
We went straight to the star of the show—the product itself. Art directing this one was easy: grab a clean, eye-popping shot that could hold its own against that loud background. One of the golden rules at TJ’s? Show the goods as they really are. That means barely any Photoshop—just enough color correction to keep things honest.. Be sure to include important details like value, length of service, and why it’s unique.
Sketch Time
The concept came together pretty naturally—a simple product photo, hand-lettered title, and a pop of energy with radiating lines. The layout was meant to echo those classic ice cream truck windows, where every frozen treat had its own product decal as if it was its own little beacon, calling your name through the glass.
Final Art
Once the concept was set, the next step was a bit of real-world sleuthing—figuring out which shade of orange would jump out of those deep freezer bays. I wanted the background to match the bright, citrusy zing of the bar itself and keep the energy high. With the romance copy in place and the Nutrition Facts Panel wrapped, the final art came together smoothly. I’m proud of how it turned out—this one’s still in the frozen aisle and even helped pave the way for new packaging designs after my time at TJ’s.
